NetCosm started with a network audit at a data centre, and a question that took far too long to answer: what's actually installed here?

Why we built it

The answer existed, but in pieces: a spreadsheet, a diagram that was out of date, a vendor portal, a security tool, and the memories of the engineers who had been there longest. Putting it together took weeks. By the time it was done, parts of it had already changed.

That isn't unusual. Most network operators run a physical estate across many sites, and the information about that estate is spread across as many systems. It holds together until an audit, an outage, an end-of-life notice or someone leaving forces the question.

NetCosm is the tool we wanted that week: one inventory of the whole network, with its security status and lifecycle, that stays current.
